5 Important & Easy Home Maintenance Tasks to Check Off This Weekend

Luxurious, modern homes are only as valuable as the care that goes into them. This quick spring cleaning checklist is essential to preventing damage to your most prized and valuable possessions.

Clean Refrigerator Coils and Dryer Ducts

Out of sight, out of mind, right? This behind-the-scenes appliance part is vital to everyday life, yet the most commonly overlooked areas. Refrigerator coils release the heat that is removed from the inside of the refrigerator, making built up dust not only energy inefficient but dangerous. The next time you vacuum or dust, take a moment to check that dust bunnies haven’t taken up residence in the coils below or behind your refrigerator.

Clean Shower Grout

Grout is extremely porous and stains easily, keep up with scrubbing between tiles and in crevices often. If scrubbing doesn’t take care of it, it’s time to re-seal the tile. Invest in a penetrating grout sealer to keep grout lasting longer.

Clean Baseboards & Crown Molding

Pull all your furniture in from the corners and wipe down all surfaces with a dust-repellent cleaning product. These areas get harder to clean the longer you wait to address them. Painting over stuck on crumbs, hair, and oil will take away from the value of the home over time.

Steam Clean Carpets

Vacuuming your carpet regularly keeps it from building up with dust and dirt but bare feet, spills, and pet accidents take a toll on the freshness of your carpet. Additionally, carpets can grow mold and harbor allergens in your home. Every 12 weeks or so, give it a hot steam rinse with a professional carpet cleaner. You can rent an easy DIY cleaner from your local grocery or hardware store for around $30!

Disinfect Electronics

When was the last time you cleaned your keyboard? If you use your computer frequently, chances are there are all kinds of mites and bacteria building up on and between the keys of your keyboard. Get a gentle TV screen cleaner to remove buildup and keep it lasting as long as possible without smudges. Dust behind the TV and between electronics cords to prevent fire hazards.

Think about setting yourself tasks that have to be completed once a week, every month, and quarterly. Some added stress and care now will prevent a world of issues down the line if you intend to stay in your home for years to come. It’s your biggest investment for your future, don’t leave any problems to deal with when you want to cash in on that investment.
